Joey Novick's NYC Marathon Journey:
From Last Place to Legacy
RAISING FUNDS TO FIGHT CANCER
1990 (age 36): Joey "competed" in his first NYC Marathon—okay, he walked very slowly. Passed the world's oldest runner (94) and finished 23,761st in 9:07:24.
1991 (age 37): Knocked nearly an hour off his time (8:15:19) and finished 25,767th. Performed with his medal that night at a Staten Island comedy club!
1992 (age 38): Big guy stepped on his ankle at the starting line. Joey ran through the pain and finished in 8:04:54 (27,754th place).
2009 (age 55): Returned after 17 years to raise $3,500+ for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. Finished in 7:56:38 (39,474th place). Pretty sure the 98-year-old world's oldest runner passed him.
2025 (age 70): Competing in his fifth NYC Marathon for the American Cancer Society, honoring two comedy friends:
